Pilates

Pilates is an extremely safe and effective form of exercise, created and designed to restore optimal alignment and movement patterns. It focuses on correct functioning of the core postural muscles which help keep the spine correctly aligned as well as working on the strength, mobility and flexibility of the whole body. The level of focus and concentration required to breathe and perform the exercises correctly makes Pilates a mind/body form of exercise, improving body awareness, reducing stress and improving mood. The mind/body connection was something Joseph Pilates strongly believed in.

The exercises are tailored according to the individual’s abilities, goals and injuries (If applicable). Our group classes are kept small to ensure that individual attention and guidance is provided. We pride ourselves in focusing on correct form and technique in order to prevent possible injuries from occurring. Our number one goal is to ensure that the classes are enjoyable and fun!

Pilates was developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates at the beginning of the 1900’s, originally known as Contrology. He believed that injuries are caused by imbalances in the body and habitual movement patterns. He saw the link between weak areas of the body and overcompensation by other parts of the body, so he set about creating a programme based on re-education and realignment. The Pilates philosophy is centred around training the mind and body to work together towards the goal of overall fitness. It is about quality, not quantity.
